Water-cycle Restoration

We enhance and restore disrupted water(-cycle) systems in order to re-hydrate landscapes, increase soil moisture levels, increase groundwater recharge, reduce flooding, mitigate drought, and increase relative humidity. In doing so, reviving wetlands, riparian zones, waterbodies, springs, and stream flows – essential as our planet’s biotic pumps. Our water-cycle restoration work focuses on practical, decentralized, nature-based solutions to heal watersheds and regenerate ecosystems. Including, but not limited to:
-
Earthworks for Landscape Rehydration & Groundwater Recharge
We use various context-specific strategies to slow the erosive force of water, reduce erosion and flooding, to spread water out across the landscape to maximize its life-giving potential, and to optimize for soil hydration & groundwater recharge.
-
Stream & Riparian Restoration
We restore degraded streams & riparian zones, stabilize eroded streambanks, reintroduce riparian vegetation, increase landscape hydration, improve water quality, and decrease flooding & erosion.
-
Watershed-scale Design & Planning
We work across farm, village, and regional watersheds to build resilient nature-based water systems to ensure that functional upland headwater watersheds and basins sustainably feed downstream agro-ecology. While also ensuring that our designed, managed, and productive agro-ecosystems increasingly function as biotic pumps to ensure our small water cycles (e.g. from groundwater through transpiration to precipitation, from dew-fall to soil, from moisture being passed on inland via healthy forests and wetlands, etc.) are revived, amplified, and continuously driven.
